Linda Noskova, unseeded, and the qualifier Dayana Yastremska will battle each other in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. The winner will then advance to play either Jasmine Paolini, Anna Kalinskaya, Oceane Dodin, or Qinwen Zheng for a place in the final. This year’s major has sprung up a few surprises, one of those is this quarterfinal tie. Dayana Yastremska has had a few successes at Grand Slam level but never to this extent. The Ukrainian's best-ever finish in Melbourne was in 2019 when she made it through to the third round. That same year she played in the fourth round at Wimbledon and third round at the US Open. But starting from the qualifying rounds, few would have picked the 23-year-old to come this far in the competition. Yastremska produced the first shock of the competition in the first round as she eliminated seventh seed Marketa Vondrousova. She lost just three games against the reigning Wimbledon champion. To advance to this round, Yastremska also produced another straight-sets win over another highly favoured player. This was two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka. Her outstanding run in the competition has propelled her a massive 51 places in the live ranking. She is now ranked 42nd in the world.
