An unseeded player will be in the last eight of the Toray Pan Pacific Open. Linda Noskova takes on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with the winner up against either seventh seed (and defending champion) Liudmila Samsonova or unseeded Ekaterina Alexandrova. Noskova is ranked 44th in the latest rankings which is only three places below her career best. Her first round win over lucky loser Himeno Sakatsume has taken her up to 42nd. This year began with her ranked 102nd but started climbing the list after getting to the final of the first Adelaide International tournament. Another hard court final was reached in Prague last month and then a run to the last 16 in Cincinatti, where she beat Petra Kvitova and Liudmila Samsonova. 

Anastasia Pavlyucenkova is down at 86th in the rankings. That's 75 places below the career high she achieved two years ago after getting to the Roland Garros final. Pavlyuchenkova also reached the last eight of that Grand Slam this year. Her best form is on clay with 21 wins this year, that's compared to her winning just five of her hard court matches in 2023. The Russian got to the last 32 of the Australian Open in January but didn't play again until the clay court season began. In recent hard court tournaments, only one of three matches has been won. The first round in Tokyo saw her beat Donna Vekic for the loss of only two games. Noskova (14 years younger than her opponent) can get the win here.
