Lina Glushko has an unexpected first round match in the Monterrey Open. Having been reprieved as a lucky loser, the Israeli faces qualifier Kateryna Volodko in this WTA 500 hard court tournament. Here's our match prediction.

Glushko beat Gabriela Lee in the first qualifying round but was then beaten in straight sets by Anna Danilina. Then she was reinstated into the main draw as a lucky loser. The winner of this match faces either unseeded Nadia Podoroska or ninth seed Magdalena Frech in round two.

The Israeli is 277th in the live rankings and her career high is the 211th achieved in 2022. Last week saw her qualify for the main draw in Barranquilla but lose in round one to Suzan Lamens. This year has been spent playing on the ITF Circuit with a title won in South Africa.

Kateryna Volodko (formely Bondarenko) is outside the top 300 at present and 325th in the live rankings. The Ukrainian did make it through qualifying but had to come from behind to win her first match against Makoto Ninomiya with a final set tie-break deciding the match.

It was easier in the final qualifying round as she beat wild card Julia Garcia Ruiz for the loss of just three games. Her year has also been spent playing on the ITF Circuit but she is yet to reach a quarter-final at that level in 2024.

There's been one previous meeting between the pair and that was in 2022 and won by the Israeli. We tip Glushko to get the win here.
