Liam Broady vs Shintaro Mochizuki Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Newport Open
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Getting to the third round at Wimbledon has taken Liam Broady up to 130th in the world. He looks to build on that with this Hall of Fame Open first round match against Shintaro Mochizuki. Both players are unseeded in this American grass court tournament. The winner will take on either seventh seeded Liam Thompson or unseeded Aleksandr Kovacevic in the second round. Broady defeated fourth seeded Casper Ruud at Wimbledon and then led 26th seed Denis Shapovalov before losing in four sets. That's history now and he needs to continue getting good results and hopefully make it into the top 100 in the rankings. Broady's career high ranking is 114th achieved last year. 2022 saw him make it through qualifying to reach the main draw of this tournament but then lost to James Duckworth in three sets and didn't win another ATP main draw match until September.
Shintaro Mochizuki is up to 191st in the rankings and that's a new career high. The 20-year-old successfully qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon despite having to go to three sets in a couple of his matches. He then lost in straight sets to the 16th seeded Tommy Paul who is the top seed for this tournament but in the other half of the draw. The Japanese player won the Boy's singles title at Wimbledon in 2019 so he's a fan of playing on grass. Having written that though his two Challenger Tour/ITF tournament wins have both been on clay. Most of his year has been spent on the Challenger Tour. Aside from reaching the first round at Wimbledon, he lost two of his three matches played in two other grass court tournaments. Broady is our tip to win this match.
