Madison Keys, the fourth seed at the Eastbourne International, continues her title defence with a match against unseeded Leylah Fernandez. They will duel for the second time in their careers in the semi-finals. The winner will then battle either Jasmine Paolini, Daria Kasatkina or Emma Raducanu for the title.

Fernandez is having quite the debut season at Devonshire Park. She is now only one win away from her first tour final of the season and her first on grass. The three-time tour champion defeated crowd favourite Harriet Dart in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

This was win number 16 of a shaky season that has seen her lose 13 times. The Canadian, not renowned for her strength on grass, has however excelled on the surface. She has won five of six matches and has now moved back into the WTA top 30 courtesy of her latest victory.

The former US Open finalist is now placed at number 25 in the live ranking.

Madison Keys is just two wins away from defending the title she won here last season. Having defeated Fernandez once before, she will be confident of progressing to the final.

Keys defeated Fernandez three seasons ago at the French Open. The American has had more time to prepare for this semi-final as she was granted a walkover by Karolina Muchova in the quarters.

Keys, who is making her grass debut for the season in Eastbourne, is having an exciting season. The eight-time tour champion had a belated start to the year due to injury but has still managed to compile a strong 17-6 record. This has already resulted in one title on clay in Strasbourg.

Keys, who is ranked 12th in the WTA, is playing her third semi-final of the season.
