Elina Avanesyan is up against Lauren Davis in the first round at Indian Wells. Seeded opposition in the form of 19th seed Donna Vekic will be faced in round two of this WTA 1000 outdoor hard court tournament. Here's our match prediction.

Avanesyan is in good form at present and last week reached the semi-finals in Merida. The 22-year-old won three matches in that tournament before being beaten in straight sets by eventual champion Emma Navarro.

That took the Armenian to a career-high 39th but a new best has already been set this week. Avanesyan is up to 36th in the live rankings and on the fringes of being a seeded player in the future.

Two WTA semi-finals have now been reached by her in 2025, the other in Hobart two months ago. There's been one previous match against Lauren Davis. Avanesyan won that on this surface last year for the loss of only four games.

Lauren Davis was 232rd in the latest rankings. The American has a career-high of 26th but that was achieved eight years ago. This year has seen the 31-year-old reach an ITF semi-final in January but has only played one WTA event and that saw her lose in round one in Austin last week.
