Lauren Davis and Alycia Parks, both unseeded, will face each other in the first round at the Guadalajara Open on Sunday. The winner will advance to play top seed Ons Jabeur in the second round. Lauren Davis is struggling with her form at the moment and has managed only one win in her last six fixtures. She lost her last match which was in the second round at the US Open. The American will hope for better tidings as she targets winning in the main draw here for the first time. Davis was eliminated in the first round during last season’s competition. She has compiled a 25-19 record and the majority of her victories, 16, coming on hard courts. Her form on the surface has seen her win her only title of the season which was in Hobart. Davis is ranked 55th in the live ranking.

Alycia Parks is faring much worse than Davis and has lost more matches than she has won in 2023. She has lost five more matches than the 17 she has managed to win. Three of those defeats have come in her last three outings. Parks arrives to make her main draw debut here after being defeated in the first round in San Diego. But as she won against Davis in their first-ever meeting last month in Montreal, Parks will be confident of a winning start here. She is currently ranked 45th in the live ranking. Most of Parks’ defeats this year, 10, have been on hardcourt where she has managed only six victories.
