Coco Gauff is the in-form player coming into this 2023 US Open. The sixth seed faces qualifier Laura Siegemund in the first round of the final Grand Slam of the year. Whoever wins this match will take on either qualifier Olivia Gadecki or Mirra Andreva in round two. Coco Gauff is still a teenager can you believe! The American seems to have been around forever and made her US Open debut in 2018 when losing in the first qualifying round. Last year saw her reach the quarter finals and if repeating the form she's shown in the lead up to this hard court tournament, that stage should at least be reached in 2023. Gauff has won recent hard court titles in both Washington and Cincinnati. That includes a win over Iga Swiatek in her last tournament. 

Laura Siegemund is the world number 121 and turned professional when her opponent was just two years old. The German first played in the US Open in 2009 but has only twice made it past the first round. Her best performance was getting to the third round seven years ago. Three of her last four visits to New York have seen her beaten in the first round. Siegemund had to qualify to get into this main draw. Two matches were won in straight sets but in the final qualifying round she had to come from behind to beat Oceane Dodin. Only one game was won in the first set but the 35-year-old then only dropped three more games, including winning the second set to love. Her only previous meeting with Gauff saw her win in Auckland on a hard court. That was three years ago and Gauff has improved immensely since then. We tip Gauff to win this in straight ets.
