It will be an all-Serbian battle on Saturday when Novak Djokovic faces Laslo Djere in the US Open third round. Djere has been in good form in his opening two rounds, winning without dropping a set. He will hope to maintain this form here as he seeks a major upset against his compatriot. Djere, 32nd seed, defeated qualifier Hugo Gaston by the loss of six games to book this round. This was his ninth win on hard court. It allowed him to move up two places to 36th in the live ranking. Djere has had a mixed campaign, compiling a 32-22 record. This is the furthest he has ever advanced at Flushing Meadows in six appearances now. Djere lost to Djokovic the only time they met, which was on clay in Belgrade last season.

Novak Djokovic has also been in dominant form in what is his 17th appearance at the US Open. He is yet to drop a set and none of his two matches has gone beyond the two-hour mark. The three-time US Open champion defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles by the loss of six games in the last round. He has lost a combined 11 games thus far. Djokovic has dominated yet again on the tour this year. He has won 40 of the 45 matches he has played with 22 of those coming in 23 outings on hard court. The current world number two has won two of the three Grand Slams in 2023. Djokovic arrived in New York after winning the Cincinnati Masters and is now on a seven-match winning streak. After winning his opening round match, Djokovic is guaranteed to assume the ATP world number one spot after the tournament. The winner will next play either Jiri Vesely or Borna Gojo.
