Ekaterina Marakova is the Russian number two behind Maria Sharapova. She's ranked 24th in the world but this run to the last sixteen won't see her ranking rise just yet. That's because Makarova really likes it in Australia and reached the semi-finals last season. Before that the Russian also reached the quarter final in 2012 and 2013, in fact she's not failed to reach the last sixteen in Australia since 2010. In the last round Makarova knocked out Karolina Pliskova, ranked 12 in the world and only lost five games. The Russian hasn't lost a set yet in three rounds and only conceded 14 games. It might be a bit tougher against British number one Johanna Konta who is also yet to lose a set and only lost 15 games. Konta beat Venus Williams in the first round and since then has knocked out Saisai Zheng and Denisa Allertova.. Her form is good and it might not be long before the Brit gets into the top 32 in the world. This should be a great match and a lot could depend on who gets off to the best start. I go for the Australian Open loving Makarova to get through to the quarter final.
