Kevin Anderson vs Tomas Machac Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP US Open
by Joseph King | in Tennis Predictions
The ATP US Open qualifiers continue with this second round matchup between the veteran Kevin Anderson and 19th-seeded Tomas Machac. The winner of this contest will go on to face either eighth-seeded Borna Gojo or Adrian Andreev in the third qualifying round. Kevin Anderson is playing in only his third event of 2023 after recently returning from retirement in July. The 37-year-old South African returned for the ATP Newport 250, a tournament he won back in 2021, and would go on to make the quarter-final in that event. He also participated in the Citi Open at the beginning of the month but suffered a first round 2-1 exit at the hands of Jordan Thompson. Anderson was able to record a straight sets victory over Ukrainian Oleksii Krutykh in the first qualifying round to advance to this stage. Anderson has excelled on hard courts throughout his career and possesses his highest winning percentage (65%) on this surface.
123rd-ranked Tomas Machac will be hoping to emulate his qualifying run at this venue in 2022 and earn a spot in the main draw. The 23-year-old has only made one final up to this point in 2023, coming at the Prostejov Challenger event in his native Czech Republic. Machac would go on to finish as the runner-up in that clay court event. Now on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows, New York, Machac will have to quickly adapt his game after a five month hiatus from this type of surface. He thrived on hard courts in 2022 but this calendar year has been a different story. Machac has won 10 of his 18 contests, well below his 67.65% career winning mark on this type of surface. The Czech was able to easily overcome Laurent Lokoli in straight sets in the first qualifying round.

Our Kevin Anderson vs Tomas Machac Prediction
Kevin Anderson will certainly have experience on his side and is playing on his preferred surface. The big South African has been known throughout his career for his powerful serve which is only accentuated by the hard courts at the US Open. Machac isn’t in the best form at the moment and will have a hard time dealing with Anderson’s big serve. We see this price as being just a bit too big for the experienced Anderson as this match should be closer to a coin flip. Our Kevin Anderson vs Tomas Machac prediction is for Anderson to win.
