Katie Volynets, the sixth seed at the Thailand Open 2, will face unseeded Clara Tauson in the first round. Ahead of this match scheduled for Monday, we have the stats for both players and a prediction.

Katie Volynets has returned to Hua Hin looking to set a new tournament personal record. The American debuted here in the year’s first edition back in January and made it to the quarter-finals. She will hope, at the very least, for a similar run as she targets ending her current slump.

Placed 60th in the live ranking, Volynets is on a three-match losing run. She lost in the first round at the US Open in her last outing. Volynets has compiled a strong 43-20 record alternating between the tour and challenger circuits.

Clara Tauson is also here after participating at the US Open where she was eliminated in the second round. The Dane has struggled since the grass season and is also in desperate need of a sustained run in Thailand.

Tauson has emerged victorious in just two of her last 11 matches. She hasn’t won consecutive fixtures since a run to the fourth round at Roland Garros. Currently in 67th place in the live ranking, Tauson has compiled a 28-21 record.

Ten of her wins have come on hard courts but so have 10 of her defeats. The 21-year-old has also alternated between the tour and challenger circuits.

This will be the two players’ first career meeting, and the winner will battle Tamara Zidansek or a yet-to-be-confirmed qualifier next.
