Unseeded Katie Boulter faces qualifier Sam Errani in round one of the Ningbo Open. The winner of this match will be up against sixth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in round two of this hard court tournament. Read our match prediction below.

Katie Boulter is the world number 35 but was a career-high 27th five months ago. In the live rankings she is 33rd and two places higher in the WTA Race.The British player will be looking for some improved form this week after just one win in her last four matches.

Her most recent tournament was the Wuhan Open where she was beaten in her first match by qualifier Lesia Tsurenko. Before that she'd lost to Coco Gauff in round two of the China Open after beating Taylor Townsend in her opening match.

Boulter has won two WTA titles this year with one of them being won in the hard court San Diego Open in March. The 27-year-old has had one previous match against Errani. That was in the Indian Wells hard court tournament two years ago, with Boulter winning in straight sets.

Sam Errani is ranked 90th in the latest list and had to qualify to get into this main draw. The 37-year-old won two matches but had to go to a final set to get past Ma Yexin in her final qualifier. Those wins have taken her to 88th in the live rankings.

The Italian had lost to then world number 260 En-Shou Liang in her previous match. That was a drop in form from reaching the last 32 of the US Open in August. Only two of her last nine matches had been won before this tournament, both being the wins in the US Open.
