That's all changed with wins over Diane Parry and a three-set victory in round two over Wang Yafan after dropping the first set. This is her first time away from Wimbledon that the 27-year-old has got to the third round of a Grand Slam.

The 21-year-old had never won a match at the US Open before this year with two previous losses, one in the qualifying round. This year has seen her get two wins so far and no sets dropped. The last round saw the American defeat Clara Tauson for the loss of three games, all in the first set. Her best performances have come on the ITF circuit with two title wins at the start of this year. Stearns faced Boulter in the qualifying rounds of this year's hard court ATX Open with all three sets going to a tie-break.
