Eight-seed Katie Boulter and the unseeded Kaja Juvan will on Monday square off in the first round at the Korean Open. Katie Boulter defeated Juvan in their only other previous encounter. Though this was four years ago, the Briton will be confident of doubling her advantage in this series. Boulter was last on the court in Beijing where she impressively qualified to make the main draw. She was defeated by world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the second round. The 27-year-old has managed four tournament finals and has won two titles with one being her first-ever tour crown. She has compiled a 38-19 record and has won 22 of 33 matches on hard courts. Boulter is ranked 51st in the live ranking.

Kaja Juvan is switching back to hard court after playing her last two tournaments on clay. The Slovak was last on the court in Parma in the challenger circuit over two weeks ago. She will hope that the break allows her not to struggle with the switching of surfaces. Juvan has compiled a strong 31-18 record in 2023 but has found the going tough on hard courts. On hard courts, she has won nine of 15 matches. Juvan is back in the WTA top 100 and is currently ranked 99th in the live ranking. The winner will then proceed to play either Bernarda Pera or Yuan Yue in the second round.
