Second seed Cori Gauff is back in action at the Doha open and will face unseeded Katerina Siniakova in the second round. The winner here will then set up a third-round battle with either Danielle Collins or Marie Bouzkova. Katerina Siniakova earned her sixth win of the season as she eliminated Donna Vekic in the first round. She won in straight sets and has now moved up four places to 38th in the live ranking. Siniakova hasn’t had the best of times against Gauff and will be eager to add to her one win over the American. The 27-year-old has advanced to the second round in Doha for the first time. Before this season, she had not won a main draw match here and had lost in the first round four times.

Cori Gauff is back in Doha for the third time. The American has never gone past the quarterfinals here, exiting twice after reaching the last eight. With the form she is in at the moment, she will be confident of setting a new record here. Gauff has been one of the in-form players at tour level this season. She has carried on with the form that saw her become a Grand Slam champion last year and has compiled a 10-1 record. All 11 matches have taken place on hard courts. The world number three has made at least the semifinals in the two tournaments she has participated in. She won the title in Auckland and then produced a semifinal finish in Melbourne. Gauff has won five of six meetings with Siniakova and defeated her twice last season.
