Tenth seed Karolina Muchova and the unseeded Wang Xinyu will meet in the US Open fourth round on Sunday. Muchova has won all her three rounds without dropping a set. This has allowed her to equal her best-ever result here achieved three seasons ago. Muchova defeated unseeded Taylor Townsend by the loss of nine games in the last round. This was her 36th win of the season in 48 outings. She has dominated on hard court where the majority of her victories, 26, have come. The highlight of her campaign however came on clay at Roland Garros where she finished as runner-up. She also finished as runner-up at the Cincinnati Open right before arriving for her sixth main draw appearance here. Muchova has won eight of her last 10 matches which has allowed her to move up to ninth in the live ranking.

Wang Xinyu is also in fine form at the moment. She has won 12 of her last 13 matches with the latest coming against Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the third round. She won in three sets as she was forced for the second match in a row, to come from a set down. The Chinese number three is now up 14 places to 39th in the live ranking which is a new career high. Wang’s impressive run at Flushing Meadows is the first time she has reached the second week of competition at a major. Before this season, she had never progressed past the first round here. Wang has compiled a 31-19 record with 26 of her victories coming on hard court. The winner of this tie will play either 15th-seed Belinda Bencic or 30th-seed Sorana Cirstea in the quarterfinals.
