Unseeded Karolina Muchova faces lucky loser Elina Avanesyan in the Roland Garros fourth round. The winner of this match will face either the 28th seed Elise Mertens or unseeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarter finals. Muchova has made it past the third round at Roland Garros for the first time. Winning this match will see Muchova in her fourth Grand Slam last eight. Her best performance has been making it to the semi-finals of the 2021 Australian Open. The 26-year-old began this tournament ranked 43rd in the world but is up to 33rd in the live list. Reaching the last eight can take her as high as 27th, eight places below her career high ranking achieved two years ago. The Czech only played a couple of clay court tournaments prior to Roland Garros. Her best performance was getting to the last 16 in Rome. This Grand Slam has seen Muchova beat two seeded players. Eighth seeded Maria Sakkari was beaten in the first round in straight sets. The last round saw her defeat the 27th seeded Irina Camelia-Begu for the loss of only five games. The only set she's lost so far was in round two against Nadia Podoroska, losing the middle set without winning a game.

Elina Avanesyan has already lost once in this tournament. Seeded 15th in the qualfiers, the Russian lost in the final round to Kayla Day after winning the first set. That wasn't the end of her Roland Garros tournament though as she was reinstated into the main draw as a lucky loser. Avanesyan began this tournament ranked 134th in the world (12 below her career high) but is up to 79th in the live list. A win over Muchova could see her rise as high as 57th. Not what she was expecting when losing in the qualifiers. This is her first time in the main draw at Roland Garros for the 20-year-old. The first round saw her defeat 12th seeded Belinda Bencic in three sets. After a straight sets win in round two, Avanesyan beat qualifier Clara Tauson despite losing the first set. Her run looks like ending here and we go for Muchova to get the win in straight sets.
