Karen Khachanov vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Wimbledon Championships
by Steve Ashfield | in Tennis Predictions
Tenth seed Denis Shapovalov is one of two Canadians through to the last eight. He takes on Karen Khachanov on Wednesday with the winner up against either Novak Djokovic or Marton Fucsovics for a place in the final. Shapovalov won the boys' title here in 2016 but before this year hadn't done well in the senior event with one win in three tournaments. He began this event ranked 12th in the world but is tenth in the live rankings. This is only his second Grand Slam quarter final but it's building on his run to the last eight at the US Open. His two grass court warm-up events saw him get through to the quarter finals in Stuttgart and the last four at the cinch Championships. That good form as continued at Wimbledon, though he had to go to five sets against Phillipp Kohlscreiber in the first round. He had a day off thanks to the withdrawal of Pablo Andujar and then broke the hearts of British fans as he beat Andy Murray in straight sets. Another good performance came in the last 16 as he defeated eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut without losing a set. He has a powerful serve and if he keeps that going, he can get to his first semi-final at Wimbledon.
Karen Khachanov won three titles in 2018, including the Paris Masters. His form hasn't been so hot since then and he's slipped from eighth to 29th in the rankings. His Grand Slam record isn't the best around and this is only his second last eight appearance. This is his first at Wimbledon, his previous best being the fourth round three years ago. He's up to 25th in the live rankings and a win here will see him return to the top 20. It's all a big improvement on a run he had earlier in the year, when just four matches were won in seven tournaments. Just one match was won in two grass court tournaments held prior to this Grand Slam. He's played a lot better at Wimbledon though but had a tough match in the last 16. He beat Sebastian Korda in five sets but had to go to 10-8 in the final set to win through to the last eight. Shapovalov won their only previous meeting two years ago and he looks in the form to get another win here.
