Second seeded Carlos Alcaraz was in excellent form in the last round. In the hard court China Open quarter-finals, he faces the seventh seeded Karen Khachanov. Read our match prediction below.

Carlos Alcaraz is third in the latest rankings but a win over Khachanov will take him back up to second. He'll be in that position in both the overall and ATP Live Race. His place in the end-of-season ATP Tour Finals has already been confirmed.

The Spaniard had won three ATP Tour singles titles this year. Only one of those victories was on hard courts with a win at Indian Wells. He's in the form to win another title though and has won his last six matches.

In Beijing, the 21-year-old has had wins over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Tallon Griekspoor, both without dropping a set. He's had three previous matches against Khachanov (two on this surface) and won them all in straight sets.

Karen Khachanov will want to change that and is up to 25th in the live rankings. In the Live ATP Race, the Russian is in 28th place, a rise of one position. He had been struggling for form before this tournament.

Three successive matches had been lost by Khachanov but he's had two good wins in Beijing. Roberto Carballes Baena was beaten in round one and then he defeated Francisco Cerundolo in round two.
