Karen Khachanov and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will square off in the first quarter-final at the Barcelona Open on Friday. Their fourth meeting in history will produce a winner who will face Holger Rune or Casper Ruud in the next round. Check out our preview and prediction for the match below. 

Khachanov has a strong record at Barcelona and enhanced it with a second-round win over Jaume Munar. It was a solid performance from the Russian, winning in straight sets to take his Barcelona record to 11-6. 

This is his second quarter-final appearance at Barcelona, and he will hope to advance past that for the first time.  

Davidovich Fokina has also never made it past the quarter-finals here in Barcelona and will be gunning for a first-ever semi-final appearance. 

In straight sets, the Spaniard saw off fourth seed Andrey Rublev and will be looking to carry the same effect to the last eight. Davidovich Fokina hasn’t dropped a set at Barcelona, after seeing off Stan Wawrinka 2-0 earlier. 

In his only clay court meeting with Khachanov, Davidovich Fokina lost, and it was in straight sets. He had, however, claimed wins in their first two meetings and carried a 2-1 head-to-head advantage.
