Kansas City Chiefs bid to reach their third consecutive Super Bowl. They host the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship, with the winners taking on either San Francisco 49ers or the LA Rams in the Super Bowl. Kansas won the Super Bowl match held in 2020 but lost to Tampa Bay last year. They had a 12-5 main season record and that saw them finish top of the AFC West and second behind top seeds (and already out of the play-offs) the Tennessee Titans. They were only behind them on head-to-head results so they had to go into the wild card round. They beat Pittsburgh 42-21 with 35 of their points coming in the second and third quarters. In the divisional final, the Chiefs had another high scoring game and came out 42-36 winners over the Buffalo Bills but needed over time to do so. Mahomes was again in top form and he is likely to be the deciding factor in this match.

The Cincinnati Bengals won the AFC North with a 10-7 record. It didn't look like that was going to be the case but the collapse of the Baltimore Ravens helped them top that division. The Bengals beat Kansas in the penultimate week of the main season. They won 34-31 but that was a home game for them. Cincinnati were seeded fourth for the play-offs but have pulled off two wins to reach this conference final. The wild card round saw them get a home victory over the fifth seeded Las Vegas Raiders, That took them into a divisional final against the Tennessee Titans and a last gasp field goal gave them their first ever win in the road in the play-offs. Not since Super Bowl XXII played in 1989 have the Bengals reached the Super Bowl. Back Kansas to win this.
