Albert Ramos-Vinolas is up against Jurij Rodionov in the first round of the Estoril Open. Both players are unseeded but in the next round could face sixth seeded Miomir Kecmanovic if he gets past Luca Nardi. Vinolas is currently 52nd in the live rankings and will be glad that the hard court tournaments are over for a while. He's played five matches on that surface this year and lost all of them. His best performances in 2023 have all been on a clay court and that's what this Estoril Open is being played on. The Spaniard got to the last four in Cordoba and the quarter finals in Rio, so will be hopeful that the European clay court season will see some better results for him. He certainly likes Estoril having won this title two years ago and reaching the last four in 2022.

Jurij Rodionov is 120th in the live rankings and has just won a Challenger Tour hard court event in Biel. He won the first set of the final against Liam Broady and his opponent then retired. The Austrian has also reached two other Challenger Tour quarter finals this year and the last four in Lille last month. However, he's not had much success on the main ATP Tour. Rodionov did play the Australian Open but lost in the second qualifying round. Vinolas can be backed to get the win here.
