Argentina's Julia Riera takes on German second seed Tatjana Maria in the second round of the Bogota Open. This will be the first time the two players have met in a match in their careers. After a weather-delayed first round was only contested on Tuesday, Riera produced a very impressive display in beating Colombia's Emiliana Arango 6-0, 6-3, a solid performance and continuing her good early season form on clay after reaching the semi-finals at the San Luis Potosi event last week. Riera has won 11 and lost seven of her matches in 2024 so far and her win yesterday has lifted her to a career high 109th in the Live Rankings. Riera has won four of her last five games (all on clay), but prior to that had lost four in a row (all on hard courts). 

Tatjana Maria gained quick revenge over Anna Bondar. Just a few days after losing to her Hungarian opponent in the San Luis Potosi tournament, Maria showed why she is the 2-time defending champion at this event by defeating Bondar 6-3, 6-2. That win was all the more impressive when you consider Maria only landed 38.2% of her first serves in that game. Unbeaten in this event over the last two years, the German starts as the slight favourite against her younger opponent and in truth, at those odds represents excellent value for money. She is currently ranked 46th in the Live WTA rankings.
