Jordan Thompson is seeded 26th for the Shanghai Masters but has been struggling for consistency of late. The Australian faces unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in round two of this hard court tournament. TIme for our match prediction.

Thompson is the world number 28 and that's a career-high for him. He is lacking consistency at present and that was illustrated in his most recent tournament in Tokyo. He beat world number nine Casper Ruud but then lost to Kei Nishikori.

The 30-year-old has lost three of his last four matches so will want a good run in Shanghai. The winner of this match faces the second seed Alexander Zverev in the next round so he'll need to up his game.

He did show good form on this surface in America recently with a run to the final in Washington and Cincinnati quarter-final. He's 1-1 in previous meetings with Griekspoor but he won the only match played on a hard court.

Tallon Griekspoor beat Thompson in their last meeting and that was in the Libema Open grass court final. Two tie-breaks were played in that final. The Dutchman does tend to reserve his very best performances for matches played in his home country.

The 28-year-old was ranked 40th in the latest list and is a place higher in the live rankings. He beat Facundo Diaz Acosta in the first round of this tournament but needed three sets to get the victory with one tie-break played.
