Just when you thought the grass court season was over, it's the Hall of Fame Open in the USA. Seventh seeded Jordan Thompson bids for a place in the semi-finals when taking on world number 155 Maxime Cressy. The winner of this match faces either Jenson Brooksby or Peter Gojowczyk in the last four. Thompson is ranked 71st and has one heck of a moustache. He's up to 67th in the live rankings and a win here will see him climb another four places.  The former world number 43 is climbing back up the rankings after some good form on this surface. He beat 14th seeded Casper Ruud at Wimbledon, where he reached the third round. That was a relief from a poor clay court season that saw him win two out of six matches. In this tournament, Thompson beat Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in the first round, when his opponent retired when 5-4 down in the first set. It was another easy win in round two as the Australian only lost two games to Yuichi Sugita. That was revenge for losing to him in the 2017 Surbiton final.

Maxime Cressy is French but now lives in the USA. He's been a pro for two years but never reached higher than 150 in the rankings. That'll change now as he's up to 148 in the live rankings and can get to 140 if beating Thompson. Qualifying for the main draw of tournaments hasn't been too successful this year. He did reach the second round of the Australian Open though, losing in straight sets to Alexander Zverev. His best perfomance before this week had been getting to the last eight of a Challenger tournament in Prague. His English grass court season didn't fare well and he failed to get into the main draw at Wimbledon. This week has seen him beat Paolo Lorenzi in round one and then beat second seed Sam Querrery in three sets. Thompson ls in good form on grass and he can get the win here.
