Jordan Thompson vs Casper Ruud Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Wimbledon Championships

12th seeded Casper Ruud takes on Jordan Thompson in the first round at Wimbledon. Ruud is the world number 14 but two places higher here due to the absence of Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem. Ruud has climbed 13 places in the world rankings this year but his best performances have come on clay. The Norwegian made it to the semi-finals in Monte Carlo, Munich and Madrid before winning the title in Geneva. It was a bit disappointing therefore when losing in the last 32 at Roland Garros. He only played one grass court tournament prior to Wimbledon. That was last week in Mallorca where he lost to second seeded Daniil Medvedev (who went on to win the title) in the last eight. Ruud has only played at Wimbledon once. That was 2019 when he lost to ninth seed John Isner in straight sets.

Jordan Thompson doesn't just have an incredible moustache but he's also the world number 78. This year began with him in 51st so he could do with a decent run at Wimbledon. Thompson is 93rd when it comes to ranking points earned this year, that's compared to tenth for his opponent. The Australian got off to a good start this year, getting to the last eight in Melbourne. Then came the Australian Open and he lost in the first round. The first two sets were lost and then he retired in the third, his opponent was a certain Casper Ruud. He was out for a month but hadn't won two matches in a tournament since that first tournament of the year until getting to the last eight in Mallorca.  He lost in the final of a grass court tournament held in the Netherlands two years ago but hasn't had any luck at Wimbledon. He's yet to win a match here and this is his fifth attempt. It'll be interesting to see how Ruud gets on here but he should be able to beat the out-of-form Thompson.
