Johanna Konta had never won a match at the French Open before this tournament. The British player now stands one win away from her first Grand Slam final and it caps a successful clay court season. Konta had slipped down the world rankings but has been climbing them again in recent months. On clay this year she's reached a final in Morocco and then repeated that feat in Rome. The latter final was far more important as she beat two top ten ranked players on the way to the final, namely Sloane Stephens and Kiki Bertens before losing to Karen Pliskova. Her good form has continued with two more wins over seeds including a quarter-final straight sets win over Sloane Stephens.

Marketa Vondrousova is ranked 38th in the world and this is the first time the Czech has made it past the second round of a Grand Slam tournament. She has yet to drop a set in this tournament and has beaten three seeded players, the highest being 12th seeded Anastasija Sevastova. Marketa Vondrousova has had a good year with a quarter final at Indian Wells where she beat Simona Halep, lower-level finals in Budapest and Istanbul and on clay, another win over Halep before losing in three sets in the quarter final to Johanna Konta. This should be a fascinating semi-final but Konta looks to have the slightly better form and she can get the win.
