Karolina Pliskova is the third seed for this US Open. It's a tournament that she has had plenty of success in over the past few years. 2016 saw her lose in the final to Angelique Kerber in three sets. Since then, she has reached two quarter finals and bids here to make it four last eight appearances in a row. Pliskova began her year by making the semi-final at the Australian Open. On grass, she won the Eastbourne tournament and during the clay season was victorious in the Rome Masters beating Johanna Konta in the final. With a runners-up spot in the Miami Open, it's been a good year for Pliskova.

Her opponent has also had her fair share of success. Johanna Konta has climbed back into the world's top 16 as a result. Her record at this tournament isn't a great one though and she's never made it past the fourth round. At least Konta has won a match here this year, the last two years have seen her lose in the first round. Konta reached the semi-final in Paris and the quarter final at Wimbledon. With that final in the Rome Masters, she has had a good year. When the crucial match tends to come along, she tends not to win it (though probably best not to suggest that in a press conference). Pliskova has won six of her seven previous matches against Konta, the only loss being three years ago. Go for Pliskova to get the win over the British player.
