Qualifier Joao Fonseca will take on unseeded Lorenzo Sonego on Thursday, seeking to continue with his incredible Australian Open campaign. They will square off in the second round with the winner taking on Frances Tiafoe or Fabian Marozsan next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Joao Fonseca grabbed the headlines in Melbourne in round one. The 18-year-old, who is making his Grand Slam debut, produced a stunning result by eliminating ninth seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets.

This was his maiden top 10 victory and he will be extra motivated to keep his campaign going. Fonseca, who has won his last 14 matches, has moved into the ATP top 100 for the first time.

Lorenzo Sonego battled through four sets to eliminate former Melbourne champion Stan Wawrinka in the first round. The victory maintained his run of winning his opening-round tie here for a fifth successive season.

Sonego has, however, found more adversity at Melbourne Park in the second round. He has lost three times in this very round in his last four appearances.

The Italian, who began his season in Hong Kong, has won three of his five matches.

Progressing to this round has moved him up two spots and into 53rd place in the live ranking.
