Joao Fonseca and Mariano Navone, both unseeded, will square off next in the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open. This will be their second career meeting at a tour event and the winner will battle Thiago Seyboth Wild or Laslo Djere in the semi-finals. Below is our prediction for this match.

Fonseca clawed his way from a set down to eliminate last year’s Buenos Aires semi-finalist and homegrown player Federico Coria. In the first round, he ousted another Argentine in eighth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

With his excellent start to the season, the young Brazilian will be confident of ousting another crowd favourite. Fonseca, a winner of the Canberra Challenger back in January, has moved up 10 places to 89th in the live ranking.

Mariano Navone defeated Fonseca in three sets at last year’s Rio Open. It was their first meeting at tour level and saw him tie this series at 1-1.

He will look to that win in Rio as extra motivation to reach the semi-finals. Navone, who is yet to lose a set this week, defeated second seed Holger Rune in the last round.

That was the fourth win of a shaky campaign that has also seen him lose four times. Advancing to this round has seen the Argentine move up two places to 45th in the live ranking.
