Jiri Lehecka, the 24th seed at this year’s Australian Open, will begin his tournament against wildcard, Li Tu. This will mark their first career meeting and the winner will face Hugo Gaston or Omar Jasika next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Jiri Lehecka is in Melbourne for a third successive season. He reached the quarter-finals in the 2023 season which is his best-ever result at a major.

The Czech star will be eager to at the very least equal this feat. His impeccable start to the year will have him confident of this. Lehecka has won his five matches this season resulting in a title in Brisbane.

The 23-year-old enjoys playing in Australia as his only other tour title was won in Adelaide. Despite his Brisbane success, Lehecka has dropped to 29th in the live ranking.

Li Tu is seeking his first win in the main draw at a Grand Slam. The Australian is making his third major appearance and the second in Melbourne since 2021.

He has had a nervy start to the season and has compiled a 2-2 record. Tu defeated compatriot James Duckworth in straight sets in Adelaide to claim only his second victory at tour level.

He would, however, lose in his next match to eventual semi-finalist Benjamin Bonzi in straight sets. Tu has moved up 11 places in the live ranking to 168th place.
