Dimitrov is the world number ten and will remain in that position even if retaining this outdoor hard court title. He also won this title in 2017 and was runner-up 12 years ago. No player has ever won this tournament three times.

His bid to create history has gone well with wins over Yannick Hanfmann, Alexandar Vukic and then eighth seed Jordan Thompson. He led Thompson a set and 2-1 when his opponent retired.

Jiri Lehecka is ranked 28th but up a couple of places in the live list. He ended 2024 well with a run to the final in Antwerp and this stage in Belgrade. He's continued his good form in this Brisbane International.

Round one saw him beat third seed Holger Rune in straight sets. That was followed by wins over qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka (in three sets) and Nicolas Jarry. He leads Dimitrov 2-1 in previous meetings, his only loss being in the 2022 Australian Open.
