Jessica Pegula is now one win away from equaling her best ever result here achieved last season. A win will also see her tie this series with Azarenka at 3-3. The American has been in good form this season and has so far compiled an 11-5 record. She made the semifinals in Adelaide and San Diego and was a quarterfinalist in Miami right before arriving in Charleston. The current world number five overcame the challenge of Magda Linette in the last round. She won in straight sets and relinquished just four games to the Pole.

Victoria Azarenka has defeated Pegula three times in their previous five encounters. Surprisingly, all her three wins have been quarterfinal ties. She will be hoping this is once again the outcome here as she plots to at least make it to her first tour final in three years. Advancing to this round has moved the former world number one up one place to 25th in the live ranking.
