Jessica Pegula takes on 13th seeded Ons Jabeur in the last eight of the National Bank Open in Toronto. Pegula is the world number 30 and began the year in 63rd place. The live rankings have her up to 26th, just one short of her highes ever position. This year has seen her reach the last eight of the Australian Open, Dubai Tennis Championships, Rome Masters and a grass court event in Berlin plus a semi-final in Doha. That shows that the American can be successful on all surfaces. This week has seen her defeat Anet Kontaveit (after losing the first set), tenth seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (after dropping the first set 6-1) and a late-night three-set thriller against Danielle Collins, losing the middle set for a change. Pegula has had one previous match against Jabeur  but that was three years ago.

 Ons Jabeur has already won a grass court tournament in Birmingham this year as well as her triumph in Tokyo. Jabuer has risen from 31 to 22 in the rankings this year and is 20th in the live rankings. Like her opponent it's been a difficult route to the last eight for Jabeur. The first round saw her beat Clara Buel for the loss of four games but since then, she's had three-setters against in-form Daria Kasatkina (losing the first set 6-2) and then defending champion Bianca Andreescu after losing the first set on a tie-break. Another close match looks likely here, go for over 21.5 games in the match.
