Jessica Pegula - Marketa Vondrousova: Form Analysis
Jessica Pegula began the year in the best possible way, beating Martina Trevisan at the United Cup back in January to claim her first piece of silverware. She followed that up with a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open a week later before being narrowly beaten by Iga Swiatek in the final in Doha. Semi-finals in Dubai, Miami, and Charlestown followed, though her performance at Roland Garros came to a somewhat premature end as she bowed out in the round of 32 to Elise Mertens in a straight-set defeat.
After briefly slipping to fourth in the world after Roland Garros, Pegula has regained her third-place ranking here at Wimbledon, having only dropped one set so far. That lost set came in the first round when she beat her compatriot Lauren Davis (6-1 6-7 6-3). Since then, she has looked in very good rhythm, recording straight set wins over Cristina Busca (6-1 6-4), Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-4 6-0), and most recently, Lesia Tsurenko (6-1 6-3) in the last round. Pegula is now 35-11 for the year and 6-1 on the grass, and will be heavily fancied to progress to the next round in this one.
Meanwhile, Marketa Vondrousova’s highlight of the year came in Linz, where she reached the semi-finals and narrowly missed out against Anastasia Popova, who clinched the match after a grueling three sets. She has only suffered one first-round exit this entire year, which has seen her improve her world ranking from 105th in March to inside the top 30 at present.
Vondrousova’s path to this stage has been a testing one, as she has had to fend off three higher-ranked opponents up to this point. After easing past Peyton Stearns (6-2 7-5) in the first round, the Czech stunned the heavily fancied Veronika Kudermetova (6-3 6-3) in the second round as an almost 2/1 outsider. Donna Vekic was her next opponent, and she came through that assignment with another straight-set win in a little under 90 minutes. The only set she has dropped in this competition came against Marie Bouzkova in the last round (2-6 6-4 6-3), but after going 1-0 down, Vondrousova managed five break points in the final two sets to claim her place in the quarter-final. She is now 28-10 for the year and 6-1 on the grass. Vondrousova is showing why she held a top 15 ranking before her fitness issues last season, and she cannot be ruled out of this one.

Our Jessica Pegula vs Marketa Vondrousova Prediction
While Pegula does go into this match as the favourite, that will mean little to Vondrousova, who has gone into her last three encounters as the underdog but come out on top. A three-set encounter looks likely here and could be a profitable play at odds of 2.1. However, Pegula does have the class to come out on top here, and we will be backing her to win this one on the outright win market. Our Jessica Pegula vs Marketa Vondrousova prediction: Jessica Pegula to win the match.
Jessica Pegula vs Marketa Vondrousova - Other Interesting Predictions
Total Sets: Three
While Pegula will be strongly fancied to progress, Vondrousova has already shown her ability to knock over higher-ranked opponents in this competition. The Czech has only dropped one set in her four matches so far and should be good enough to win at least one in this match as well.
Total Tie Breaks in Match: Under 0.5
Pegula’s only tiebreaker in this competition came in the very first match, and that was the only one she has played in her last 13 matches, dating back to mid-April. It’s a similar situation for her opponent, who has not faced any tiebreakers in this tournament and just two in her last 13 matches.
Set Betting: Jessica Pegula to win 2-1
Based on our expectations of the match going to a third set, we fancy that Pegula will still emerge victorious in the final set. The American has lost the second set twice in her last six matches, while Vondrousova has lost the first set in two of her last five.
