Iga Swiatek takes on Jessica Pegula in the title decider of the WTA Finals. It's a massive match for Swiatek as victory will take her back to the top of the world rankings. That's the situation after the Pole beat current world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the last four. The straight sets win means going on to win this title will see the year end as it began with Iga Swiatek ranked number one in the world. It was a comfortable win for Swiatek who had to overcome the long delay in playing the match and crazy moments when the song 'Maniac' kept playing as she tried to serve. It's been that kind of week in Mexico! Swiatek has won all four of her matches this week with previous victories over Marketa Vondrousova, Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur, achieved without losing a set. After her recent China Open win, the Pole has now won ten successive matches with just one set lost. 

Jessica Pegula also hopes the year ends as it began. 2023 started with her being part of the American team that won the United Cup. On the way to lifting that trophy, Pegula beat Iga Swiatek. That's one of three meetings the pair have had this year and the American leads 2-1, most recently beating her in Toronto. All three matches have been on hard courts as will be this final. Overall, Swiatek is 5-3 ahead of Pegula in previous meetings and 4-3 on hard courts. Pegula is also unbeaten in singles matches this week with wins over Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari and in her semi-final, Coco Gauff. Her match in the last four took place on Saturday but Pegula has had a doubles match in the meantime. This is her eighth match in this tournament. Both are in good form but we believe it'll be Swiatek who gets the victory.
