Top seed Jessica Pegula is through to yet another Charleston Open semifinal and is set to take on fourth seed Daria Kasatkina. A showdown in the final with either Maria Sakkari or Danielle Collins will then await the winner here. Jessica Pegula has equaled her best-ever result in Charleston achieved last season. She will now seek to advance to her first final here and for the season. The American defeated Victoria Azarenka in an exciting quarterfinal battle that lasted two hours and 36 minutes. This was her 12th win of the season in 17 outings. Coupling this form with her strong record over Kasatkina, Pegula will be confident of a win here. The current world number five has won both times that she and Kasatkina have squared off. She defeated her in Rome three seasons ago and then in Tokyo last year with both matches ending in straight sets.

This would have been the second matchup this year between Daria Kasatkina and Pegula. But Pegula had to pull out of their scheduled semifinal in Adelaide back in January. The withdrawal allowed the Russian to advance to the first of two tour finals this season with the other being in Abu Dhabi. Kasatkina is having an amazing season and is now one win from another title match. She will hope things go differently this time around as she seeks her first tour crown in two seasons. Kasatkina also made the semifinals here last year and was a champion in 2017. To advance to the last four, she battled through three sets against Jaqueline Cristian. The match lasted over two hours and 40 minutes and saw her lose the first set. Kasatkina is ranked 11th in the live ranking and will move into the top 10 if she triumphs in Charleston.
