Jessica Pegula is out to reach the last four of the Miami Open for the second successive year. The third seed takes on the 27th seeded Anastasia Potapova with the winner up against either Elena Rybakina or Martina Trevisan in the last four. Pegula is one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour and this is her fourth quarter final of 2023. The year began with her being parrt of the American team that won the United Cup but her only singles tournament final has been in Doha. A win over Potapova will take her into third in the Live WTA Race. It's titles that Pegula needs to start winning with only one won since 2019. Pegula is yet to lose a set in this tournament and three of her six sets won have seen her opponent only win a maximum of three games.

Anastasia Potapova was ranked a career high 26th at the start of this Miami Open. That's been beaten though and Potapova is up to 22nd in the live rankings and a win here could take her into the top 20 for the first time. The Russian has already won one title this year. That was in Linz but no players in the top 30 were beaten. Her previous tournament saw her knocked out in the last 32 in Indian Wells. It was Pegula who eliminated her but the American had to come from a set down to do so. That was her third loss in as many matches against Pegula and all have been on hard courts. Potapova has beaten two seeds to reach this quarter final. Sixth seeded Cori Gauff was beaten in round three after losing the first set on a tie-break. Round four saw a straight sets win over 23rd seeded Zheng Qinwen. Pegula looks the most likely winner here though.
