Top seed Jelena Ostapenko faces qualifier Clara Tauson in the second round of the indoor hard court Upper Austria Linz Open. For the winner there's a quarter final against either qualifier Jaqueline Cristian or unseeded Jodie Anna Burrage. Ostapenko is ranked 12th in the world and fifth in the live WTA Race based on points earned this year. The Latvian has made a strong start to 2024 and has already won one title winning the Adelaide International with four top 30 ranked players beaten. Before that Ostapenko had made it to the last eight in Brisbane and most recently got to the last 32 of the Australian Open. The 26-year-old has had one previous meeting with Tauson and that was on an indoor hard court three years ago. Tauson won that in three sets 

Tauson was ranked 91st at the start of this tournament but is up to 79th in the live list. The Dane ha to win two qualifying matches to reach the main draw of this tournament. First up came a win over wild card Tamara Kostic and then Jacqueline Cristian for the loss of just two games. Cristian has been reinstated as a lucky loser and could meet Tauson again in the next round. Tauson had a tougher first round match against Camilia Giorgi. The first set was lost but the 21-year-ol then won the next two sets 6-3. This year has seen her reach the second round of the Australian Open and the semi-finals of a WTA 125 event.
