The main draw of the ATP Shanghai Masters sees JJ Wolf taking on Pedro Cachin in the round of 128. The winner of this matchup will advance to the round of 64 to take on 15th-seeded Cameron Norrie. JJ Wolf will be looking to carry over some of the momentum after a Beijing Open performance which saw him win his first two matches. The 24-year-old advanced to the main draw after winning both of his qualifiers before ultimately bowing out to 47th-ranked Mateo Arnaldi in the first round. However, Wolf can take some encouragement from the event as he knocked off 43rd-ranked Max Purcell 6-3, 6-0. The American’s best run so far this year came in January - February. He made the fourth-round of the Australian Open and followed that up with a semi-final appearance in the Dallas Open in consecutive tournaments. On the year, Wolf has a record of 25 wins and 22 losses, 16 of which have come on hard courts.

Pedro Cachin has been in somewhat mixed form since taking down the EFG Swiss Open back in July. Since the victory, the Argentine has won only four of his nine appearances which includes two first round exits. Cachin did not have to pass through qualifiers for this event and will be playing his first match of the draw in Shanghai. His most recent outing saw him win his first two matches before being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Szczecin Challenger event in Poland. The last time that the 92nd-ranked pro played on a hard surface resulted in a first round, 3-1 loss to Ben Shelton in the US Open back in August. Cachin is very much a clay court specialist with 655 of his 717 career matches taking place on the surface.
