Britain's Jay Clarke bids to get one round closer to the main draw of the French Open. The world number 228 takes on Filip Horansky from Slovakia who is ranked 36 places above him. Clarke has slipped 61 places in the rankings in the past year but has climbed eight spots in the past month. He will be looking to continue that improvement with some wins in Paris. It's not been that great a year for the British player with several early losses. His last tournament showed a bit of promise though as he made it to the last eight of a Challenger tournament held in Italy and played on clay. Three of his seven matches played on clay this year have been won.

Filip Horansky began the year ranked 185th and is one place lower going into this French Open. He was 164th a couple of months ago so needs some good results to see his position improve. His year began well though with a run to the final of a Challenger tournament held in France. February saw him compete in a clay court tournament in Spain getting to the last eight but losing to a player who was ranked outside the top 300. That's happened to him twice more and he comes into this Grand Slam having lost seven of his last eight matches and only winning three sets. Clarke has better recent form and he can get the win here, possibly in three sets. Neither are likely to make the main draw though with the winner likely to face Dennis Novak in the next round.
