Round one of the Merida Open sees Camila Osorio take on Jaqueline Cristian. This is an outdoor hard court tournament and both of these players are unseeded. The winner will face second seed Paula Badosa in round two. Read our match prediction.

Camila Osorio is 53rd in the live rankings, 20 places below the career-high she achieved in 2022. This is her first tournament since reaching the last eight of the Singapore Open at the end of January. 

Before that, the 23-year-old Colombian had lost in the second round in Hobart and the Australian Open. Osorio beat Maria Sakkari in that Grand Slam before losing to Ons Jabeur. 

Jaqueline Cristian is down at 85th in the live rankings. Her best performance of 2025 has been in the Australian Open where the third round was reached. No seeded players were beaten by her in that tournament and she was beaten by lucky loser Eva Lys after winning the first set.

Her most recent tournament was in Dubai where she was beaten in the final qualifying round. That was her third loss in four matches. The only previous match between these players was in Wuhan with Cristian winning in three sets.

Osorio looks to be in the better form at present and we tip her to win.
