Alison Van Uytvanck from Belgium is the second seed for the Astana Open. Her opponent in this semi-final is the unseeded Jaqueline Cristian. The number two seed is ranked 89th in the world but is up to 77th in the live rankings. Winning this match will take her into the top 70 in the world but that's still way below her career high of 37th achieved three years ago. Van Uytvanck hasn't been in the best of form of late but did get to the last 16 at the Tokyo Olympics, with a win over Petra Kvitova. The Belgian has had success on the ITF circuit, winning a title on grass in Nottingham, England in June. This week has seen her lose just one set in three matches, that was in the second round against Anna-Lena Friedsam. The last eight saw her defeat seventh seeded Varvara Gracheva in straight sets.

Her opponent is world ranked a career high 126th but up to 111th in the live rankings. Winning this match could see her in the top 100 for the first time in her career. The Romanian is in her seond semi-final in a matter of weeks. Cristian reached the last four of a WTA125 event in Germany earlier in September. It's not been an easy route to this semi-final with two of her three matches going to a final set. This is another tough task and the tip is to bet on the second seed to progress to a final, most likely against top seeded Yulia Putintseva.
