Pool C in the men’s volleyball competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be decided on Friday when Japan take on the United States. Ryujin Nippon are currently second in the group with four points while Team USA lead the standings with five points. Here’s our match prediction for this group decider. 

Pool C has been the most open at the Olympics this year with three teams still in with a chance of securing the top spot. Japan can finish top with a win here but need all three points to guarantee it. 

Ryujin Nippon suffered an opening-match defeat to Germany last week, narrowly losing 3-2 in a fierce battle. However, they bounced back from that with a solid 3-1 win over Argentina on Wednesday despite the South Americans putting up an impressive fight. 

That result marked Japan’s seventh win in their last 10 matches in all competitions, with their three defeats coming against Germany, France and Canada. 

Meanwhile, the United States got their Olympic campaign started with a commanding 3-0 win over Argentina but were made to work much harder in their second match where they narrowly edged Germany to a 3-2 victory.

Team USA also hold a record of seven wins in their last 10 games, and were beaten by Canada twice and Poland during that run. 

Notably, these two met in the Nations League last month and Japan surged to a 3-0 win, which was their first-ever against the US in a competitive match.
