Thanassi Kokkinakis started this week ranked 93rd in the world. The Australian had to rely on a wild card to play in this Adelaide International. This time last year he was ranked 171st in the world but soon started climbing back up the list after a run to the semi-finals in this tournament. He followed that up by winning the second Adelaide tournament but then lost in the first round of the Australian Open. Kokkinakis only won one match in the four Grand Slam events held last year. 2022 didn't end well for him with only one of his last seven matches being won.
