The semi-finals of the ATP Monte Carlo Masters will unfold this weekend, and in the second match of the day, we will see Jannk Sinner take on Holgar Rune on Saturday afternoon. The number eight ranked player in the world, Jannik Sinner, has been one of the most consistent players on the circuit this season and came into this tournament following a runners-up trophy at the Miami Masters and a semi-final appearance at the Indian Wells Master before that. While this is his first clay court tournament of the year, the Italian has faired relatively well on this surface over the years, with a record of 15-4 last year and 10-6 th year before. In this tournament, Diego Schwartzman retired injured in Sinner’s opening match, and the Italian was made to work for his second-round win over Hubert Hurkacz, with the match requiring a third set to decide the winner. Lorenzo Musetti was Sinner's opponent in the round of 16, and the Italian made light work of the 16th seed, seeing him off in straight sets (6-2 6-2). Sinner has already notched up one title this year, which came in Rotterdam, and he will feel that this could be the perfect opportunity to double that with a victory here in Monte Carlo. 

Meanwhile, Holgar Rune has yet to feature in a final since his loss to Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters back in October last year. Ranked ninth in the world, Rune has had a successful clay court history with a record of 21-11 last year, and with this also being his first clay court tournament of the season, he matches his opponent's record of 3-0 to date. Rune overcame qualifier Dominic Thiem in straight sets in the opening match of the tournament before being awarded a W/O by Matteo Berrettinin in the round of 16. However, the biggest win of his season came in the last round, where he overcame the formidable Daniil Medvedev in straight sets (6-3 6-4). Rune has beaten this opponent once before though that was after the Italian retired on the hardcourt at the Sofia Open last year, but that will still give the Dane bags of confidence for this one, which he will need to overcome an in-form opponent.
