Jannik Sinner is hoping for third time lucky in this National Bank Open final against unseeded Alex de Minaur. The seventh seed is in his third Masters final but has lost the other two. Both were in Miami with the most recent one being this year. Now he has a good chance of winning his first Masters title. If he does, the Italian will move up two places in the rankings to a career high sixth. This run to the final of this outdoor hard court event in Toronto has seen him climb to fourth in the Live ATP Race. Sinner is in highly consistent form at present and this is the fourth successive tournament in which he's reached at least the last eight. It's his fourth final of the year with one title won in Montpellier. To get to this latest final he's had wins over Matteo Berrettini, a walkover against the injured Andy Murray, a three-set victory over Gael Monfils and in his semi-final, a straight sets win over Tommy Paul.

Unseeded Alex de Minaur was ranked 18th at the start of this tournament. He's now up to a career high 12th and beating Sinner will take him up to 11th. The Australian has won one ATP Tour event this year, that was the hard court Mexican Open in February. He's also in two other finals, including the recent Los Cabos Open. This is his first Masters final and to become champion, he has to beat Jannik Sinner for the first time in his career. All four previous matches against him have been lost, three of them on hard courts. The most recent loss to Sinner was in last year's Madrid Masters, though that was on clay. To reach this final, de Minaur has beaten three seeded players. 11th seeded Cameron Norrie was beaten in round one and the eighth seed Taylor Fritz in a three-set match in the last 16. The quarter finals saw de Minaur defeat the second seeded Daniil Medvedev. That took him into a semi-final against unseeded Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina which he won for the loss of just four games.
