Jan-Lennard Struff vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Kennedy Kechula | in Tennis Predictions
Lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff will hope to continue setting more personal records at the Mutua Madrid Open when he takes on fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Struff has never been this far in the tournament, in fact, the German had never been past the second round here prior to this season. On the ATP Tour, Struff trails his opponent 3-2 in previous meetings but he has won their only match played on clay. Another win will see him up against either Aslan Karatsev (whom he lost to in the qualifying rounds) or the unseeded Zhang Zhizhen. Struff lost his second-round qualifier and is one of two lucky losers who made it to the main draw. Since then he has dug deep to upset highly favoured players like Ben Shelton, Dusan Lajovic and Lorenzo Sonego. This has boosted his world ranking immensely as he is up a whopping 24 places to number 41 in the live rankings. This is the highest he has been ranked in three years. This is his second last eight appearance of the European clay court season having also reached this state in Monte Carlo.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ best-ever result in Madrid came back in 2019 when he went all the way to the final and reached the last four in 2022. Looking at how he has started this season, the world number five will expect to go one better this time and win the tournament. Tsitsipas has been superb this season and even though he is yet to win a title, he has reached two finals, most recently in the Barcelona clay court tournament. He started this tournament a bit wobbly and was forced to a deciding set in each of his first two matches. He however looked to have calmed his nerves in the fourth round against crowd favourite Bernabe Zapata Miralles as he won in straight sets and allowed the Spaniard just one game in the final set. He will be fresher than Struff for their clash with the German having spent a combined eight hours on the court in just his last three matches.

Our Jan-Lennard Struff vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
Our prediction for Jan-Lennard Struff v Stefanos Tsitsipas is for the match to end in a straight-sets win for Tsitsipas. Struff has always found the going tough against Tsitsipas and coupling this with the fact that he has played for well over two hours in each of his last three matches in Madrid, he could be a bit jaded to go toe to toe with the Greek.
