Top seed Jan-Lennard Struff is scheduled to take on eighth seed Corentin Moutet in a quarterfinal clash at the Bordeaux Challenger. This Thursday clash is a ticket to the semis with the winner setting a meeting against Tomas Etcheverry or Albert Ramos Vinolas. Struff is doing well on clay where 13 of his 35 wins this season have come. He got to Bordeaux after a good run in Madrid where he reached the final, having proceeded as a lucky loser. This feat moved him catapulted him up the world rankings to number 28. A good start in Bordeaux has moved him further up two places. This is his second appearance here after ten years. Struff defeated qualifier Kyrian Jacquet in straight sets and will hope this momentum carries him further.

Corentin Moutet hasn’t been as excellent on clay as Struff but has a better head-to-head advantage over the German. He beat Struff in their only meeting in Adelaide last season though that was on a hard court surface. Like Struff, he is making his return to the tournament after a five-year hiatus. Moutet has won his two rounds with only one set dropped. The Frenchman defeated the alternate Dominic Thiem to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time here. This winning start has enabled him to move up six places to number 61 in the live rankings. Another win will move him up six more places which would be his highest since January. Moutet has been sidelined for the better part of the season with injuries and has only played six matches.
